Social Media Evolution: Get Caught Up or Get Left Out

Social media is a content distribution and management tool that works through the virtual social environment. It’s a process of communication and content distribution that’s constantly evolving. 

Back in the day, content/messages were delivered using pigeons. A more reliable practice was a messenger on a horseback. Centuries later the government created a sophisticated process called the “postal service”. This became a worldwide standard of communication that obviously phased out pigeons and messenger on a horseback.

Times continued to improve with new-sophisticated technological inventions such as radio, then the telephone where people communicated more frequently through a web of wires. Yes, it was the social media evolution without being referred to as social media.

Then came television. Television inspired the ecosystem of more technological advancements including the invention of good old Video Cassette Recorders and other sources of video content distribution such as cable TV and on-the-air video channels, and this entirely changed our lives. Then came fax machines, pagers and cellular phones and these devices made pigeons and messenger on a horseback look like an ancient myth.

Computers were humongous creations with the first computer being the size of a whole room. All of this rapidly changed the world and developed even more advancement in communication.

The invention of Internet obviously enhanced the modern era. It inspired the development of new technological communication tools that are compact, mobile and more productive.

Social media tools and strategies have now exploded and it has become a part of the worldwide technological eco system. Today, social media is the largest and the most cost-effective source of digital content distribution, and it continues to evolve.
