Putting Your Video Together

In part 4 of our getting started with video series, we'll take a look at some tips for putting together all of your photos and videos to make a professional video to promote your business.

There are a number of ways to pull your video together, whether that’s with special editing software, consumer editing software, or easy to use video makers.

Here are some things to keep in mind regardless of what tool you’re using to edit your video.

The first thing you’ll have to decide is how you’d like to format your video to tell your story. Here are a few options.

1.Record yourself speaking to the camera and cut that together with visuals, like we’ve done in this series. Cut together your video clips and photos and tell your story using a voiceover. Use titles and captions to give context to your photos and video clips.

2.The visuals in your video, in other words the colors titles transitions and effects, should match the personality of your business. So choose colors and fonts similar to what you usually use to promote your business.

3. You’ll also want to select a style and pacing that matches the general mood of your brand. In the video above, you'll see an example of a visual style that’s ideal for a company that sells baby products but might not work for a restaurant or a bar. Once you’ve figured out the secret sauce for your video’s visual style, stick to it so that all of your videos are recognizable as coming from you.

4. Along those same lines, you’ll want to be sure to choose music that supports the message you’re trying to convey with your video. Steer clear of songs with lyrics if you have a voiceover. If you don’t have a voiceover, make sure any lyrics you include don’t take away from the message you’re trying to convey. Choose light upbeat tracks that will put viewers in a good mood. Remember you don’t have to start a song at its beginning. Select the best part of a song for your purposes. Also, make sure you have the rights to any music you use.

Most importantly, don’t forget to have fun.
