Video Marketing: Gathering What You Need

Welcome to part 3 of the Animoto Getting Started with Video series. In this segment, we'll take a look at how to collect all of the photos, videos, and other things you'll need to create your first video.

Gather What You Need to Create Your First Video

Using what you have on hand

The good news is if you have a website or social media profile, you probably already have photos and videos on hand that you can repurpose to create your video. Create a folder and collect everything you've got. This includes photos and videos of your workspace, product, your team and your logo.

User-generated content

You can also use images, videos and reviews shared by your customers. Do a little online research to see what your customers have shared on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, YouTube and other sites.

Want more user generated content? Don’t be shy. You can ask people to submit photos and videos through Facbook or Twitter. You can also ask in an email

Do-It-Yourself (DIY) tips

Need more photos and videos but feeling overwhelmed about producing them yourself? You may actually be surprised by how much you can do on your own. You can shoot professional-quality photos and videos with a consumer camera or even on your smartphone. Here are a few tips:

  • Always shoot in landscape mode rather than vertically, so your footage will look good in a video player.
  • Use a tripod or hold your elbows against your body to avoid shaky footage.
  • Make sure to shoot in a well-lit area for the sharpest, best looking results.
  • Take a variety of photos and videos from different angles and then choose the best ones to include in your final video.

Now you're ready to gather everything you need to create your first video. Stay tuned for part 4 of our series, where we'll dive into putting it all together.
